The Friday 56 and Book Beginnings #1

The Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice where every Friday you pick a book and turn to page 56 or 56%, and select a sentence or a few, as long as it's not a spoiler. For the full rules, visit the the page HERE

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you're reading.

Wizard and Glass (The Dark Tower, #4)
Today's book is Wizard and Glass by Stephen King - book 4 in the Dark Tower series.

Synopsis taken from Goodreads:
Roland of Gilead and his fellow pilgrims determine to reach the Dark Tower, but their quest is rife with confrontation, conflict and sacrifice - from a vast computer system which bargains in riddles to Roland's old enemy Walter and the wizard's glass.

Beginning: "ASK ME A RIDDLE," Blaine invited.
"F*** you," Roland said. He did not raise his voice.

Friday 56: More silence from Blaine. And maybe that was good. Jake wasn't sure how much he wanted to know about the Fall of the Hounds, or what went on beneath them.

  1. Weighing in late:

OD MAGIC by Patricia McKillip: Brendon, a visitor from the north, comes to the capital city in search of his magical destiny. He starts a magical revolution, and his fate seems tied in some way to the mysterious street magician Tyramin.

Pg 56: A helpless despair rose in her, that she would never see beyond the walls the kings of Numis had placed around magic, she would never know how much more, if anything, there was to know.

  5. Hi Anna,

I'm afraid that I don't really read much in the way of fantasy or science fiction, however I can still appreciate good cover art and words from the genre :)

Anything by Stephen King is certain to fill both criteria nicely, although I have only ever read his very early stand alone novels, which tended more towards horror than fantasy.

Fellow 'King' addicts, tell me that some of his more recent books are tending to go back to his early style of writing, but I admit that I have yet to try any of them for myself!

Thanks for sharing and Happy Reading :)

    Yvonne

    1. Stephen King is definitely a unique writer! I've read so much of this horror that it can get a little boring now, but I'm really intrigued by his fantasy work. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try!
